Salon NESOU EDUCATION PROGRAM (For Staff Only)
Salon NESOU takes great pride in the in house training program. It is the backbone of our company, and has proven to be a great success in training high quality, dedicated stylists, who have long and successful careers. The training program was established in 1990 and has grown and expanded each year since then, making the majority of our stylists trained in house.
Newly hired hairdressing staff is required to attend the classes of the assistant education program on a weekly basis, while assisting stylists with their work during the rest of the week. All stylists are required to attend the continuing education program on a monthly basis.
Who can apply to the Program?
We are interested in training and hiring individuals who want to pursue a long-term career in the hair industry with us at Salon NESOU. All candidates will undergo several interviews and may be invited to demonstrate some of their hairdressing and/or customer service skills. The following people may apply for a position in our education program:
- Graduates of beauty schools, possessing a valid State of California Cosmetology License.
- Stylists who possess a valid State of California Cosmetology license, who wish to join out team.
Who Are The Educators?
The educators who teach in the program are salon stylists who have showed an aptitude for teaching and leadership, and excel in their performance as stylists. Educators are hand picked and trained in the salon. They have various hairstyling Wella, Redken, Vidal Sassoon, and Toni & Guy.
With a strong foundation in the hair industry, we have created our own unique training method, which allows students to learn a strong classic foundation, while developing their own unique style and flair.
What do the Assistant and Apprentice Training Programs Consist of?
Typically, the assistant program can be completed in 12-18 months. Each assistant is guided through goal setting and evaluations on a quarterly basis, thus allowing each individual to focus on their specific needs in order to complete the training program on schedule. Classes for programs are held once a week, and include theoretical and practical elements. The training program is divided into two segments, SN 1 and SN 2, through which each student progresses at his/her own pace. At the end of each segment, students are required to take a day long test (called test-out), in order to progress to the next segment.
In SN 1 students learn the foundations of hairdressing, allowing them to become proficient in the cutting and coloring techniques of hair, and enabling them to begin building a clientele. Completing the SN 1 level training and exam progresses the students into SN 2, where they start working as stylists one day a week, and continue assisting during the rest of the week. This allows students to have hands on experience. After completing SN 2, students take a final test, then celebrate the end of their training with a soiree, an evening in which each student creates a short program with live models, demonstrating their skills and personal fashion sense. Once SN 1, SN 2, test-outs, and the soiree are complete, the students become full time stylists.
Continuing Stylist Education:
At Salon NESOU we strongly believe in the importance of education no matter where you are on your career path. Once our stylists are working full time behind the chair, the education program becomes more of a trend and update program. We have various monthly classes in cut, color, make up, trend update, and business building, just to name a few of the topics covered. Classes are held on and off site, and are taught by salon educators as well as educators from other hairdressing companies.
Interested in being a Model for one of our Training Classes?
Being a model in our education programs is a great way to get a great look for an affordable price. Models are needed most Wednesday evenings, between 4-9PM, and need to be flexible with the time they can spend at the salon, as most services require 3 hours each. Models are required to be open-minded about the cut and/or color they will receive. The final look we create for models will be discussed and explained to each model prior to the beginning of the service. To become a model, please call 1.310.453.5497 and leave a message on model-night. A stylist or assistant will contact you to set up your appointment. Only confirmed appointments will be honored at class time.
